Congratulations on making it this far! All of the hard work is done. You’ve searched high and low sifting through photographers to find the one who’s artistry spoke most to your heart. I am so elated that that photographer was me. Now it’s time for one of the most exciting parts of your photography session journey, choosing your outfit. What to wear?!
Comfortability & Personal Preference
The most important aspect of your outfit is that you are comfortable and that it is true to who you are. For those who wish to wear a dress, I often find that a long flowing dress aids in comfortability. You must take into consideration how you feel in various poses: standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, and possibly even laying.
Weather & Layers
Here on the Central Coast of California we are blessed with some of the most tepid natured weather. That being said, it still can fluctuate and we must plan accordingly. I find that an outfit that incorporates peelable layers allows for the most flexibility and comfortability.
Coordinate, Not Identical
When deciding on outfits for two or more people it is important to coordinate outfits and avoid wearing identical wardrobes.
Color, Patterns & Texture
Neutral solid colors are almost always a safe bet. Solid colors in general are elegant. Unless a wedding, I advice against wearing black & white and most neon colors. If you would like to incorporate patterns in your outfit envision floral and similar cohesive patterns. Bold patterns such as high contrast polka dots and stripes can alter the aesthetics and mood of your images. It is always a good idea to avoid decals, graphics and logos on clothing when possible. Textures such as lace, silk, corduroy & tweed photograph beautifully and add elegance to images.
Shoes
It is important to remember that shoes are a part of your outfit. I know it’s obvious and might seem silly to mention, but more times than I would like to admit, people show up to their photography session with not-so-photogenic shoes. You don’t have to pull out your dressiest pair, but just keep in mind the above when choosing which shoes to wear.
Additionally, I love shoes, but sometimes they don’t necessarily show my feet the same love. If you have the same relationship with your shoes, please feel free to bring a comfy pair along to make walking from your car to the location we’ll be photographing at easier.
Plan Ahead
In the era of post-covid it is essential to plan ahead, especially when purchasing a new wardrobe.
I am always here for you. If you have any question, concerns, or just need someone to bounce a wardrobe idea off of, never hesitate to reach out to me.
